Engineering Lead - Prism
Leads end-to-end embedded and backend software for a parabolic antenna product, including control interfaces, telemetry, testing, and hardware integration. Requires 7+ years of software development, hardware-control experience, embedded/server expertise, and technical team leadership.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Own Prism software end to end, including embedded antenna software, backend control and monitoring services, and the contracts between them.
- Set design direction across the embedded/backend boundary, including state ownership, control loops, commands, and telemetry models.
- Accelerate development, testing, and integration through hardware-in-the-loop rigs, simulators, and automated testing against real and simulated hardware.
- Own product telemetry and automation, including calibration, health checks, fault detection, and recovery.
- Define and version Prism’s platform interface for tasking, telemetry, state, and diagnostics.
- Lead, mentor, and grow an engineering team; set technical direction and review designs.
- Collaborate with FPGA, DSP, RF, and mechanical engineers on system partitioning and software requirements.
- Work hands-on in laboratories and at field sites during integration.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software development experience.
- 3+ years building production software that controls, monitors, or automates physical hardware in edge environments.
- Experience developing both embedded software and the backend systems that drive it.
- Engineering leadership or technical leadership experience, including mentoring and team delivery.
- Strong experience with service communication, interface and API design, state machines, and failure handling across process and machine boundaries.
- Strong systems programming skills in Rust, Go, C++, or similar languages.
- Experience building test infrastructure, including hardware-in-the-loop rigs, simulators, and automated integration with real hardware.
- Reliability-focused engineering practices, including instrumentation, failure-aware design, and automated testing.
Nice-to-haves
- Familiarity with RF systems, antenna control, timing and synchronization, or satellite communications.
- Exposure to FPGA or DSP work and system partitioning between silicon, firmware, and servers.
- Experience operating fleets of remote or edge systems, including deployment, configuration management, over-the-air updates, and rollback.
- Experience with high-rate telemetry, data capture, or edge streaming pipelines.
- Experience leading engineers across multiple disciplines.
- Comfort working hands-on with hardware, RF, and operations engineers in labs or at sites.
