Engineering Technician - Autonomous Vehicles

Engineering Technician supports engineers by building, testing, and troubleshooting electromechanical systems for autonomous vehicles, interfacing with conventional automotive vehicles, and assisting in vehicle launches at customer sites. Requires 5+ years experience with electrical/mechanical skills and up to 30% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Interface electromechanical systems with conventional automotive vehicles
  • Build up electrical and/or mechatronic systems
  • Test and troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems
  • Debug issues stemming from either add-on modifications, inherent vehicle issues, or the interface between the two
  • Documentation of in-field issues and maintenance
  • Write reports and record data on testing techniques, laboratory equipment, and specifications to assist engineers
  • Assist in autonomous vehicle bring-up at customer locations
  • Basic software work; uploading updated code to various vehicle subsystems
  • Communicate issues with a remote hardware team, local mechanics and test engineers

Required Skills

  • Ability to read, write, and interpret technical drawings & schematics
  • Basic knowledge of automotive systems and repair
  • Diagnostics and troubleshooting experience
  • Basic electrical skills: Soldering, ingress protection, fault identification, wiring harnesses
  • Basic mechanical skills (knows their way around a vehicle)
  • Familiarity with air systems, preferably semi-truck air brake systems
  • Able to lift more than 40 lbs
  • Travel requirement up to 30%

Preferred Skills

  • Robotics/autonomous systems/transportation experience
  • SMT soldering experience, including hand board assembly (solder paste, ovens, hand solder work)
  • Familiarity with multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, hand tools, power tools, adhesives, and sealants
  • General knowledge of materials and their mechanical properties
