Process Development Engineer, Etch

Develops and optimizes semiconductor etch and fabrication processes through hands-on cleanroom experimentation, tool operation, recipe development, and process analysis. Requires a relevant engineering or materials degree and experience with multi-step fabrication flows and semiconductor equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and run laboratory experiments for new semiconductor etching and thin-film fabrication methods.
  • Read academic papers and technical literature to inform experimental design; develop and iterate ideas quickly.
  • Learn and operate semiconductor tools, including etch, deposition, lithography, and metrology systems.
  • Develop, transfer, and optimize process recipes across platforms, focusing on consistency, yield, and throughput.
  • Analyze process data, troubleshoot recipe and equipment issues, and document findings and results.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on cleanroom experience with multi-step fabrication flows.
  • Experience operating dry etch, thin-film deposition, and lithography tools.
  • Experience developing and optimizing recipes for dry etch, thin-film deposition, or lithography.
  • Familiarity with metrology such as ellipsometry, profilometry, and SEM.

Nice-to-haves

  • Mechanical or maintenance experience with fabrication tools.
  • Full device-flow experience.
