Product Manager, Transaction Risk Decisioning

Leads product strategy and execution for real-time transaction risk decisioning across card payments, ACH, peer-to-peer payments, and transfers. Requires 5+ years of product management experience, deep payments-risk expertise, strong analytical capabilities, and cross-functional leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Drive strategy to reduce transaction declines and increase purchase volume authorization rates.
  • Launch new controls for emerging fraud patterns across money movement rails.
  • Redesign risky decline flows to improve recovery for legitimate members while containing bad actors.
  • Partner with analysts, data scientists, Compliance, Legal, engineers, operations, platform teams, and member support.
  • Improve the quality of risk signals flowing into decision checkpoints.
  • Make confusing risk outcomes understandable and actionable for members.
  • Design safeguards, fallbacks, and monitoring for new financial products.
  • Shape product vision and build alignment across engineering, risk, compliance, and leadership.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager.
  • Deep expertise in payments risk, including card networks, Visa and Mastercard transaction rules, authorization reason codes, dispute and chargeback frameworks, and decline return codes.
  • Experience connecting decisioning logic to revenue outcomes and framing risk tradeoffs in terms of business impact.
  • Strong product mindset with the ability to translate complex risk and platform challenges into clear strategy and execution.
  • Experience operating in systems with significant policy, operational, and data dependencies.
  • Ability to work across member journeys, policy behavior, experiment design, and platform capabilities.
  • Strong customer empathy and experience turning user insights into product decisions.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience applying machine learning and AI methodologies.
  • Experience working in a fast-growing, cross-functional environment.
  • Deep curiosity, ownership, and passion for helping members lead healthy financial lives.

Compensation and Benefits

  • San Francisco, CA base salary: $183,000–$205,000.
  • Chicago, IL base salary: $165,000–$185,000.
  • Four days per week in the office and Fridays from home for employees near an office; fully remote program options are also available.
