Commissions & Payroll Accountant
Oversees payroll processing, commissions calculations, and compliance for a remote energy tech company. Requires a bachelor's in accounting and 2+ years of payroll or commissions experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Calculate commissions payments on a monthly and quarterly basis in accordance with approved compensation plans.
- Reconcile commissions payouts against bookings and revenue data, resolve discrepancies.
- Respond to employees or management inquiries regarding commission or payroll calculations and provide supporting documentation.
- Coordinate annual updates to Commissions Plan as needed.
- Assist with drafting Individual Compensation Plans for sales team members.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
- Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
- Assist in preparing financial analyses and schedules necessary for audit, and coordinate audit requests with team members.
- Support various special projects and ad hoc tasks as necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
- 2+ years in payroll, commissions or accounting operations.
- Payroll processing experience, preferably in a multi-state and global environment.
- Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
- Goal-oriented personality capable of multitasking and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly motivated, organized, and adaptable.
- High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
- Consistently take ownership of assigned tasks and identify areas for improvement.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while collaborating effectively across teams.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).
- Experience using Sage Intacct, Rippling, Tipalti, Carta, Salesforce, and Google Sheets preferred but not required.
- Bonus: experience working in the clean technology industry.
