Responsibilities

  • Lead curriculum and learning design for one or more South Asian languages, starting with Hindi, balancing learner engagement, cultural relevance, and measurable learning impact.
  • Use human-in-the-loop AI workflows and prompt engineering to generate and refine high-quality content while maintaining quality standards.
  • Establish and maintain content quality systems, including guidelines, rubrics, and review workflows, to ensure linguistic accuracy, difficulty calibration, consistency, and brand voice.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Engineering, and Scaling Operations to plan roadmaps, ship experiments, and build scalable content-generation processes.
  • Contribute to strategy for teaching Hindi and other South Asian languages, informed by the broader regional linguistic and cultural context.
  • Identify, recruit, onboard, and manage freelance educators, linguists, cultural consultants, and language reviewers.

Requirements

  • Deep proficiency in Hindi and substantial experience teaching Hindi as an additional language.
  • Experience designing Hindi curricula.
  • India-centered cultural and regional expertise, including understanding of South Asian sociolinguistic and sociopolitical contexts.
  • Knowledge of language identity, script, register, standardization, multilingualism, regional variation, and cross-border language communities.
  • Familiarity with Hindi’s place in the Indo-Aryan language family and its relationship with Urdu, Punjabi, and Bengali.
  • Linguistics training, including language typology, with the ability to apply typological awareness to unfamiliar languages.
  • Strong analytical thinking and the ability to distinguish errors from acceptable variation.
  • Creativity, product sense, and ability to make learning experiences approachable, playful, culturally meaningful, and motivating.
  • Strong project management, documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Graduate degree or equivalent practical experience in Applied Linguistics, Language Education, Linguistics, Instructional Design, Learning Science, Indian or South Asian Languages, South Asian Studies, or a related field.
  • The role must be based in Pittsburgh, PA; remote or other locations are not accommodated.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working familiarity with Dravidian languages, particularly Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada.
  • Understanding of typological and pedagogical differences between Indo-Aryan and Dravidian language families.
  • Experience building human-in-the-loop generative-AI workflows for multilingual educational content.
  • Experience designing consumer-facing mobile or app-based language-learning products.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary range: $142,800–$193,200 USD.
  • Base salary is supplemented by equity compensation.
