Build and operate the distributed data execution systems behind Mixpanel’s large-scale query platform, including compute, caching, storage, and compaction. The role requires 3+ years of backend or data infrastructure experience, distributed-systems expertise, and strong production ownership.

Responsibilities
- Design and build systems that execute Mixpanel queries at scale.
- Contribute to technical designs for distributed-systems projects from prototyping through global rollout, including elastic query compute, distributed file caching, columnar storage internals, and compaction.
- Own projects or significant components end to end: design, implementation, launch, and production operations.
- Partner with infrastructure teams such as Query Serving, Streaming, and Data Foundation, as well as product teams, on shared architecture.
- Operate production systems and make informed technical tradeoffs based on reliability and performance experience.
- Communicate technical decisions through design documents, code reviews, and asynchronous discussions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating data infrastructure or backend systems.
- Foundation in distributed systems or data infrastructure.
- Experience shipping and operating production systems.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- High ownership, accountability, and sound technical judgment.
