Software Engineer III

Build and scale Ruby on Rails backend services for rewards, incentives, and loyalty features in a high-throughput platform. The role owns complex feature delivery, contributes to architecture, mentors junior engineers, and requires 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own feature development end-to-end, from technical design through delivery.
  • Break complex projects into well-scoped, deliverable pieces.
  • Write idiomatic, performant, well-tested Ruby code.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions involving data modeling, service boundaries, API design, and background processing.
  • Improve code quality, performance, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Guide junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and design feedback.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and QA.
  • Participate in on-call rotation, incident response, root-cause analysis, and systemic improvements.
  • Document technical decisions, data models, and service patterns.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful Ruby on Rails development.
  • Experience delivering complex features and translating ambiguous requirements into technical plans.
  • Exposure to large-scale, high-throughput distributed systems.
  • Advanced Ruby on Rails proficiency.
  • Strong PostgreSQL skills, including schema design, query optimization, migrations, and performance analysis.
  • Experience designing and building RESTful APIs in Rails.
  • Solid testing practices with RSpec or Minitest, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Familiarity with background job processing such as Sidekiq.
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
  • Ability to work autonomously and communicate effectively in a remote environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using AI-assisted development and agentic coding tools.
  • Experience working in a remote engineering organization.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Typical salary range: $145,000–$165,000.
