Build and scale Ruby on Rails backend services powering shopping, merchandising, search, and live game experiences. The role owns complex features end-to-end, contributes to architecture, guides junior engineers, and supports reliable distributed systems.

Responsibilities
- Contribute to team-level architecture decisions involving data modeling, service boundaries, API design, and background processing.
- Own features end-to-end, from technical design through delivery, and break complex projects into scoped work.
- Write idiomatic, performant, well-tested Ruby code.
- Improve code quality, performance, reliability, and developer experience.
- Guide junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and design feedback.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and QA on technical decisions and implementation.
- Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, root-cause analysis, and systemic improvements.
- Document technical decisions, data models, and service patterns.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful Ruby on Rails development.
- Experience delivering complex features and translating ambiguous requirements into technical plans.
- Exposure to large-scale, high-throughput distributed systems serving millions of users.
- Advanced Ruby on Rails proficiency.
- Strong PostgreSQL skills, including schema design, query optimization, migrations, and performance analysis.
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs in Rails.
- Testing experience with RSpec or Minitest, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
- Familiarity with background job processing, such as Sidekiq.
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
- Ability to work autonomously and communicate effectively in a fully remote environment.
- Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship is unavailable.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools, agentic coding tools, or AI-augmented development workflows.
- Experience with Go.
- Experience working in a remote engineering organization.
- Incident response experience in high-pressure situations.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $145,000–$165,000 USD annually.
