Responsibilities
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end payroll accounting close processes, including review and approval of complex journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Perform monthly payroll flux analysis and explain significant period-over-period movements to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Lead payroll accounting across global entities, including the Netherlands, Brazil, France, Germany, and India, ensuring accurate accounting treatment, local compliance, and timely close.
- Manage multi-currency ledger reconciliations, foreign exchange gain/loss adjustments, and intercompany cross-charges.
- Provide technical accounting oversight for stock-based compensation and complex commission structures.
- Own payroll accounting for equity compensation programs, including RSUs, stock options, and ESPP, covering recording, tax withholding treatment, and reconciliation across equity, payroll, and the intercompany general ledger.
- Serve as the primary contact for internal and external payroll accounting audits.
- Maintain compliance with SOX, US GAAP, and multi-jurisdictional payroll tax regulations.
- Partner with legal, external consultants, and banking partners to establish new subsidiaries and support accounting processes for new global locations.
- Partner with PeopleOps, AP, and Procurement to monitor and audit independent contractor relationships, ensure accurate general ledger classification, and mitigate disguised-employee risks.
- Drive AI and automation adoption, including AI-assisted payroll-register-to-GL reconciliations, automated variance detection, and improved data flow across payroll, equity, and financial systems.
- Hire, train, mentor, and manage a team of payroll accountants.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 8+ years in payroll accounting and 4+ years in a supervisory or management role within a US multinational framework.
- Chartered Accountant, CPA, or equivalent certification required; CPP strongly preferred.
- Experience accounting for equity compensation, including RSUs, stock options, and ESPP, from payroll tax treatment through general ledger reconciliation.
- Experience driving automation and AI adoption in payroll or accounting operations, including implementing tools that reduce manual work and improve accuracy.
- Deep understanding of US GAAP, multi-jurisdictional tax laws, and SOX compliance.
- Experience with cloud-based systems such as SAP, Workday, and Payslip.
- Experience partnering with local accounting teams on statutory accounts and supporting remote teams across multiple geographies, including US-based accounting teams.
