Global Controller

Leads the global accounting function, overseeing close, revenue recognition, equity accounting, controls, systems automation, treasury, and audits for a remote-first company. Requires 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, deep US GAAP and ASC 606 expertise, and demonstrated accounting automation leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly and quarterly close, general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and account reconciliations; deliver accurate, timely US GAAP financials and reduce close time from approximately 10 business days to 6–8 days.
  • Own revenue accounting and technical accounting for subscription and usage-based revenue recognition under ASC 606, including the ARR-to-GAAP bridge and reconciliation of ARR, billings, deferred revenue, contract assets, usage true-ups, and reported revenue.
  • Prepare technical accounting position memos covering contract modifications, SSP allocation, variable consideration, and capitalized contract costs.
  • Own equity compensation accounting under ASC 718, including grant accuracy, 409A timing, expense, modifications, and cap-table integrity.
  • Manage and grow an accounting team of approximately seven employees.
  • Build a control framework for a global, remote-first private company and maintain audit-ready books.
  • Own the accounting systems roadmap across NetSuite, Stripe/Metronome, Ramp, Avalara, and FloQast; drive automation across close and reporting.
  • Manage select treasury operations, including cash management and banking relationships, and partner on FX exposure monitoring.
  • Lead the external audit relationship and coordinate with external tax partners on compliance, provisions, and filings.
  • Coordinate statutory accounting, payroll and contractor controls, entity reporting, and international compliance with Legal, HR, and Tax.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leading a team through managers or leads.
  • Big Four or equivalent top-tier public accounting experience.
  • Deep US GAAP expertise, particularly subscription and usage-based revenue recognition under ASC 606.
  • Personally owned an accounting automation or AI deployment with measurable results.
  • Experience scaling an existing accounting function.
  • Proven experience managing external audits and maintaining audit-ready books.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional stakeholder-partnering skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Internal controls or SOX-readiness experience.
  • Experience at a remote-first or globally distributed company.
  • M&A or deal accounting experience.
  • CPA license, active or inactive.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting salary ranges from $250,000 to $280,000 USD or equivalent in local currency, depending on geographic zone and experience.
  • Geographic salary zones range from $244,000 to $290,000 USD.
