About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide end-to-end legal support for Okta’s Public Sector teams, focusing on Regulated Products and Services.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on emerging cloud service policies, educating internal teams on shifting regulations.
  • Partner with cross-functional legal counsel to ensure our products meet rigorous U.S. and international regulatory standards.
  • Embed with Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Security teams to navigate compliance frameworks and authorizations processes (e.g., FedRAMP) from conception to launch.
  • Provide frontline legal counseling for Okta’s most critical regulated environments.
  • Partner with business and technology teams to guide the development and implementation of Okta’s Public Sector solutions.
  • Drive the legal strategy for introducing new products and features into regulated environments (e.g., FedRAMP, GovRAMP, DoD CC SRG).
  • Provide pragmatic legal solutions that balance aggressive business objectives with necessary risk mitigation.
  • Serve as a bridge between legal, engineering, compliance, security, and sales teams.

Requirements

  • 5–7+ years of legal practice, with at least 2 years focused on U.S. Public Sector and Regulated Products.
  • Deep understanding of the unique legal and regulatory hurdles associated with U.S. regulated industries, specifically: FedRAMP, DoD CC SRG, Federal Acquisition Regulation, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement.
  • Proven track record supporting IT products and SaaS business models.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. Federal, state, and local regulations impacting tech.
  • J.D. from a highly-regarded institution and active Bar admission.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with a “roll up your sleeves” mentality.
  • Ability to maintain high standards and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Military Judge Advocate and U.S. Federal Civilian service attorney advisor experience.
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical field.
  • Hands-on experience with or a strong understanding of AI platforms and tools to optimize internal legal workflows.
  • Thrive in a hybrid team setting, building strong relationships with internal partners.
