About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead the drafting, structuring, and negotiating of complex commercial contracts with a diverse range of customers and partners from automotive OEMs, Autonomous Vehicle (AV) startups, and other players in the AV ecosystem.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the leadership team on legal matters critical to the growth of the business.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders (e.g., Sales, Finance, Product, Engineering) to lead key initiatives.
  • Support activities related to IP, Product, and Compliance as needed.
  • Create forms, playbooks, and training to improve consistency, execution speed, risk mitigation, and scalability.
  • Develop and implement scalable and sustainable legal operations processes, programs and tools to support the legal team’s efficient delivery of services to the broader company.
  • Proactively manage other duties that may arise as part of a small legal team in a high growth start-up.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active membership in one state bar.
  • 5+ years of experience structuring, drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements, including software licenses, strategic partnerships, and joint development agreements.
  • Experience negotiating and drafting IP and material contracts representations in stock purchase, merger, and asset purchase agreements in financings.
  • Demeanor to thrive in a fast-paced sales focused environment, requiring exceptional organizational skills, juggling priorities, and adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to travel (up to 20%).

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with some combination of law firm and in-house work.
  • Computer science or engineering degree.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range for this full-time position: $180,000 - $250,000 USD annually. Total compensation for eligible roles includes base salary, equity (options and/or restricted stock units), comprehensive health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance coverage, 401k retirement benefits with employer match, learning and wellness stipends, and paid time off.
