Senior Engineering Manager - Test Systems & Tooling
Leads and grows a team building shared test systems and tooling for production-representative, workload, performance, and failure-mode validation. Requires engineering management experience, distributed-systems expertise, and a record of delivering widely adopted internal platforms.

Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the Test Systems & Tooling team, including hiring, coaching, and developing engineers.
- Improve production-like test environments that reflect production topology, configuration, scale, and behavior.
- Build and evolve workload replay, realistic workload generation, multi-tenant testing, load testing, and stress testing capabilities.
- Establish repeatable validation of failure modes, including dependency failures, latency injection, resource exhaustion, degraded-state recovery, and regional failures.
- Create shared testing frameworks, patterns, and tooling with visibility into test health and systemic gaps.
- Identify critical system-level scenarios, drive coverage to completion with partner teams, and integrate validation into continuous or release processes.
- Collaborate with Cloud/Infrastructure, Reliability, Release Engineering, and product teams to convert production learnings into stronger pre-production detection.
- Define and drive measurable outcomes such as adoption, confidence signals, reduced escaped issues, and faster incident-to-coverage time.
Requirements
- Experience managing and developing a high-performing engineering team, including direct reports.
- Strong coaching, feedback, and performance management skills.
- Strong technical background building or operating reliable distributed systems or adjacent platform infrastructure.
- Ability to prioritize important failure modes and make sound technical judgments.
- Track record delivering internal platforms or tooling adopted by multiple teams.
- Ability to balance ergonomics, speed, and long-term maintainability.
- Comfort working through ambiguity, aligning stakeholders, clarifying ownership, and driving cross-team execution.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with chaos engineering, fault injection, workload replay or shadowing, performance testing, or multi-tenant test strategy.
- Experience partnering with Release Engineering or CI/CD platform teams to institutionalize pipeline validations.
- Familiarity with observability and incident response practices.
- Experience translating incident learnings into preventative test coverage.
Compensation and Benefits
- Estimated pay range: $268,000–$351,750, depending on experience and location.
- Eligible to participate in the company equity plan.
