Senior Backend Engineer II - IPC
Senior backend engineer responsible for designing, operating, and scaling IPC services across Bestow’s insurance platform. The role requires 5+ years of backend experience, strong Go and Python skills, distributed-systems expertise, and production cloud infrastructure experience.

Responsibilities
- Contribute to technical design decisions for IPC services, balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability.
- Design, build, and operate backend services using Python, PostgreSQL, Go, and a Java-based Drools rules engine.
- Partner with engineering teams on platform integration work.
- Build platform capabilities supporting carrier onboarding, product launches, and configuration flexibility.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and pairing.
- Support production reliability by maintaining and improving SLOs, strengthening observability, and participating in on-call rotations.
- Use agentic AI coding tools in daily development and help establish effective AI-assisted practices.
- Communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, and status clearly in a remote-first, asynchronous environment.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional backend software development experience at the Senior level.
- Strong proficiency in Go and Python; Java experience is a plus.
- Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and API design, including Protocol Buffers and OpenAPI.
- Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases at scale.
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes, Docker, and Google Cloud, or equivalent platforms.
- Experience building, deploying, and troubleshooting production services end to end.
- Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to identify risks, propose solutions, and drive work to completion.
- Ability to write maintainable, well-tested software and uphold a high quality bar.
- Demonstrated daily experience with agentic AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot.
