Senior Software Engineer, Backend
The Senior Backend Engineer will build, scale, and operate production backend services and APIs, taking ownership from design through on-call. Responsibilities
- Build and maintain backend services and APIs powering the platform.
- Own backend systems end to end, from design through deployment and on-call.
- Address performance and reliability issues as usage grows, evolving production systems under load.
- Instrument systems and design security into services from the start.
- Build data models and pipelines that provide actionable insights.
- Contribute to design reviews, code reviews, and cross-team technical decisions.
- Mentor early-career engineers through code review, pairing, and feedback.
- Participate in technical interviews and calibration.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience shipping production systems in fast-paced environments.
- Deep expertise in APIs, data modeling, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture.
- Proficiency with relevant backend technologies such as Java, Node.js, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and AWS or similar technologies.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform.
- Experience deploying containerized applications.
- Experience scaling systems operationally and evolving live architecture under load.
- Ability to explain and defend technology tradeoffs to engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
- GitHub profile or portfolio of past projects.
