Senior Software Engineer, Backend | Audit Product Team

Responsibilities

• Deepen understanding of the healthcare claims and payments domain.
• Build production-grade backend services using Java, Scala, and/or Rust.
• Set backend development standards, mentor engineers, and elevate team programming maturity.
• Represent backend engineering in cross-team planning and support cross-functional execution.
• Contribute to complex in-browser applications with extensible, scalable, and secure architectures.
• Balance customer-facing feature development with technical debt reduction.
• Architect and implement applications that apply machine learning techniques to large data volumes.
• Design reliable, high-performance distributed systems and applications.
• Introduce and help the team adopt agentic engineering practices and AI coding workflows.
• Write technical design documents that translate ambiguous product intent into concrete backend designs.
• Own code quality, improve complex codebases, and operate cloud services at scale.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in backend programming; additional full-stack experience is highly desirable.
• Experience designing and shipping customer-facing web application products.
• Meaningful experience with Java or Scala.
• Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems on cloud services at scale.
• Experience with high-throughput and highly available systems.
• Strong technical design, systems thinking, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Product- and user-driven mindset with a focus on business and customer outcomes.
• Hands-on experience with agentic engineering tools and workflows in production.
• Experience reading and understanding complex code and owning code quality.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

• Rust experience.
• Technical leadership in Rust best practices, including idioms, safety, and performance.
• Full-stack development experience.

• Pay range: $200,000–$230,000.
