Software Engineer, Product
Build and own customer-facing product features across Descript’s editor, media, growth, monetization, and AI surfaces. The role requires 5+ years of full-stack product engineering experience, strong product judgment, and expertise with modern web technologies and experimentation.

Responsibilities
- Own meaningful product surfaces end to end, from problem definition through design, implementation, launch, measurement, and maintenance.
- Build and improve customer-facing Editor, growth and monetization, media, and AI product workflows.
- Partner with Product and Design to propose interactions, identify constraints, select metrics, and simplify user outcomes.
- Design and build reliable, responsive full-stack systems using TypeScript, React, Node.js, Temporal, integrations, and related technologies.
- Form hypotheses, instrument features, release incrementally, and evaluate results using product analytics and experimentation.
- Improve tooling, standards, tests, observability, and release practices.
- Provide architectural direction, conduct thoughtful code reviews, mentor teammates, and communicate clearly in writing.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and shipping customer-facing products, including end-to-end features that measurably improved user or business outcomes.
- Experience owning features or experiments from planning through launch and evaluating impact with analytics and metrics.
- Ability to use AI agents effectively, explore unfamiliar systems, ask thoughtful questions, and work through ambiguity and technical complexity.
- Strong product judgment and attention to user experience.
- Rigorous validation practices using reproductions, logs, tests, and other evidence.
Nice to Have
- Experience with editors, media products, creative tools, or payment systems.
- Experience with TypeScript, HTML/CSS, React, Redux, Node.js, API design, Temporal Workflows, SQL, or Rust.
- Experience building agents or experimenting with media-generation models.
- Experimentation and product analytics experience.
- Knowledge of shaders, graphics rendering, audio/visual effects, or media formats.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary: $220,000-$265,000, plus equity and benefits.
