Technical Program Manager, Actuators

Technical Program Manager responsible for actuator development and integration from system goals through production readiness. The role coordinates multidisciplinary hardware, firmware, testing, manufacturing, and supply-chain teams while driving technical convergence, validation, risk management, and delivery.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Drive actuator programs end-to-end, aligning scope, milestones, interfaces, dependencies, and exit criteria across engineering teams.
  • Drive scope lock and technical convergence for sprints, MVPs, and stretch goals while connecting component decisions to system performance.
  • Coordinate actuator development across motors, gears, sensing, electronics, and firmware, including electrical and mechanical interfaces with the broader robot.
  • Lead validation planning from early prototypes through engineering validation, reliability testing, and production readiness.
  • Drive tradeoff decisions across cost, quality, performance, schedule, and lead time.
  • Establish mechanisms for technical reviews, change control, design releases, decision tracking, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Surface risks and drive decisions, owners, and actions to closure.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Experience leading complex electromechanical hardware programs from development through manufacturing.
  • Ability to reason about actuator internal architecture and integration through PCBAs, connectors, and cables.
  • Ability to work across mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, firmware, harnesses, controls, test, reliability, manufacturing, and supply chain.
  • Understanding of hardware development realities, including prototype cycles, long-lead parts, suppliers, testing, design changes, and production ramp.

Compensation

  • Annual salary range: $207,000–$285,000.
  • Hybrid role based in San Francisco, CA, requiring in-person presence four days per week.
