Director of Government Affairs

Leads Altana’s European Union government relations strategy, policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and lobbying efforts. Requires 10+ years in government affairs or public policy, deep knowledge of EU legislative processes, and strong communication and negotiation skills.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive government affairs strategies aligned with company goals.
  • Monitor and analyze EU legislative and regulatory developments and advise senior management on policy issues.
  • Build relationships with the European Commission, European Parliament, Council of the EU, member-state governments, industry associations, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and public forums.
  • Develop policy positions and lead lobbying efforts to influence policy and regulatory outcomes.
  • Draft position papers, policy briefs, advocacy materials, presentations, and reports.
  • Coordinate with marketing, sales, product teams, external consultants, lobbyists, and industry coalitions.
  • Communicate complex policy issues to policymakers, stakeholders, the public, and senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with EU lobbying and political activity regulations.
  • Report regularly on government affairs activities and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or a related role, with a strong focus on federal institutions.
  • Proven success in policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
  • In-depth knowledge of EU legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English.
