Senior Software Engineer - Action Platform
Build and scale the Private Action Runner, a secure execution layer that enables Datadog products and AI agents to run actions within customer infrastructure. The role combines hands-on architecture and implementation with mentoring three engineers and a transition toward engineering management.

Responsibilities
- Solve a scaling bottleneck in a critical service.
- Deploy new features to production, progressively rolling them out with feature flags.
- Investigate and fix production issues in services owned by the team.
- Design approaches to scale services for increased traffic.
- Plan the team’s most important upcoming projects.
- Mentor and lead a small team of three engineers.
Requirements
- Significant experience with one or more programming languages.
- Strong focus on code simplicity and performance.
- Ability to design architectures that solve problems at high scale.
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate in a scientific field, or equivalent experience.
- Willingness to lead and support a small group of engineers.
- Experience using AI coding tools in day-to-day workflows, including building, validating, and refining AI-generated output in products.
- Ability to design AI backend systems while considering quality, cost, and latency tradeoffs.
Nice to Have
- Previous experience mentoring or leading small teams as a tech lead or team lead.
- Motivation to advance software engineering practices with AI and contribute to AI-enabled products.
