About the role

Responsibilities

  • Design and update propulsion mechanical components and assemblies as the organization transitions from prototype builds to low-rate production.
  • Design hardware for bench testing and support troubleshooting alongside propulsion engineers.
  • Resolve design, fit, and integration issues discovered during early builds.
  • Implement design improvements to simplify assembly, improve repeatability, and reduce build time.
  • Create and maintain CAD models and drawings while following processes that ensure design-change traceability.
  • Support prototype and production hardware fabrication and assembly.
  • Develop work instructions, fixtures, or tooling to support assembly.
  • Document design changes, build feedback, and lessons learned to support production ramp-up.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Comfortable designing hardware using CAD such as NX or SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with common manufacturing processes.
  • Able to work onsite 30–40 hours per week for at least 10 weeks.
  • Able to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and ask good questions.
  • Strong curiosity and attention to detail.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Hands-on fabrication experience.
  • Participation in student project teams such as UAV, Formula SAE, robotics, or rocketry teams.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping, 3D printing, basic machining, or shop tools.
  • Interest in propulsion systems, electric powertrains, or flight hardware.
