Responsibilities
- Conduct supplier assessments and on-site audits to evaluate PCB, PCBA, and electronics manufacturing suppliers' quality systems, process controls, and production capabilities.
- Partner with Electrical, Manufacturing, and Design Engineers throughout hardware product development to ensure quality planning, manufacturability, testability, supplier readiness, and volume-production readiness.
- Lead supplier qualification activities, including process audits, First Article Inspections (FAI), Production Validation Builds (PVT), and manufacturing readiness reviews.
- Lead supplier quality planning across prototype, pre-production, and mass-production phases, including control plans, PFMEAs, process validations, and outgoing quality strategies.
- Manage supplier corrective action requests (SCARs), 8D investigations, containment actions, and root-cause analysis.
- Develop supplier scorecards and KPIs covering quality, reliability, yield, and responsiveness.
- Analyze manufacturing and field-quality data to identify trends and mitigate risks related to PCB fabrication, SMT assembly, component quality, and electronic-system reliability.
- Collaborate with suppliers to implement inspection, testing, and process-control methods that ensure consistent quality and process capability.
Requirements
- Experience developing, qualifying, and managing electronics manufacturing suppliers across multiple geographies.
- Quality engineering experience in high-volume, high-complexity consumer electronics, aerospace, automotive, robotics, or similar industries.
- Deep knowledge of PCB fabrication, SMT processes, electronic assembly, test systems, and component quality management.
- Familiarity with PCB and PCBA manufacturing processes, including PCB fabrication technologies, soldering, AOI, SPI, ICT, flying probe, functional testing, X-ray inspection, and reliability testing.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, assembly drawings, Gerber files, fabrication notes, and engineering documentation.
- Proficiency with PFMEA, DFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, 8D, root-cause analysis, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Process Capability Analysis, and Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Experience with component qualification, supplier process validation, reliability testing, and failure analysis for electronic assemblies.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership, and cross-functional influence skills.
- Willingness to travel 20–30%.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with IPC-A-610, IPC-6012, IPC-J-STD-001, and IPC-7711/7721 standards.
- Experience in advanced electronic products and supplier continuous-improvement programs.
