Senior Software Engineer, Network Performance & Reliability
Builds and operates large-scale, highly available network software infrastructure for Cloudflare’s products. The role requires systems-level programming, Layer 3/4 networking expertise, distributed-systems experience, production operations, and participation in on-call support.

Responsibilities
- Build and operate reliable network software infrastructure powering Cloudflare products.
- Translate requirements from engineering teams into new platform capabilities.
- Partner with Network Engineering and SRE to optimize use of Cloudflare’s edge network.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including system design and documentation, coding, automated testing, deployment planning, and production monitoring.
- Use AI-powered tools to analyze and extend codebases, inspect production systems and datasets, and accelerate problem-solving.
- Participate in the team’s on-call rotation and take responsibility for the health of production systems.
Requirements
- Systems-level programming experience in Go, Rust, C, or C++.
- Solid understanding of OSI Layer 3 and Layer 4 networking protocols.
- Knowledge of HTTP, TLS, and CDN networks.
- Experience implementing secure, highly available distributed systems.
- Experience monitoring, alerting on, and debugging large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience participating in an on-call rotation.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Experience or interest in network performance monitoring and tuning.
- Willingness to adopt and integrate AI tools into engineering workflows.
Nice-to-Haves
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and Internet routing.
- Professional systems-level programming experience in Rust.
- Working knowledge of statistical analysis techniques and control theory.
- Experience building tools and APIs.
- Professional experience using AI-assisted development tools for code completion, codebase analysis, or log and data exploration.
