Responsibilities
- Lead development of high-impact, user-facing safety products with measurable outcomes.
- Own complex, multi-milestone projects end-to-end, navigating ambiguity and making independent technical decisions.
- Design, build, and deploy production APIs, backend services, and data pipelines that scale safety features.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Policy, Data Science, ML, Legal, and Trust & Safety Operations.
- Mentor engineers, establish best practices, and guide architectural decisions for long-term scalability.
- Respond to evolving abuse and compliance requirements with strategic thinking and rapid execution.
Requirements
- 8+ years of relevant industry experience delivering high-quality work on complex projects.
- Strong Python and backend API framework expertise, including Flask and Django.
- Strong frontend development skills with JavaScript, React, and TypeScript for web and mobile platforms.
- Significant experience in safety or anti-abuse systems and trust and safety challenges at scale.
- Experience owning large projects end-to-end and breaking work into prioritized milestones with clear dependencies.
- Ability to balance short-term needs with long-term sustainability and scalability.
- Experience setting quality standards, conducting code reviews, and identifying security, performance, and scaling issues.
- Strong communication and cross-functional alignment skills.
- Experience using metrics and dashboards to make data-driven decisions and monitor system health.
- Experience mentoring engineers and helping teammates grow.
- Experience using AI development tools such as Claude Code and Cursor.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Cassandra, PostgreSQL, or ScyllaDB.
- Experience with real-time streaming systems such as Kafka or Pub/Sub.
- Experience building and operating native mobile features on iOS and Android.
- Experience designing monitoring strategies and on-call or on-point processes for production systems.
- Knowledge of Go, Rust, or Elixir.
Compensation
- US base salary: $248,000–$310,000 annually, plus equity and benefits.
