Leads the technical direction, architecture, and delivery of highly available backend services and distributed systems for a global parking and e-commerce platform. Responsibilities
- Drive the long-term technical direction, architecture, and strategy of backend services powering the AeroParker pre-book parking and e-commerce platform.
- Identify and eliminate systemic engineering bottlenecks while ensuring distributed systems remain highly available, secure, and capable of handling high-volume consumer traffic across global airports.
- Drive ideas from inception through technical specification and global delivery, navigating technical and non-technical challenges.
- Define engineering craft strategy and implementation standards across the organization, balancing technical excellence with business requirements.
- Partner with engineering managers and cross-functional leadership to improve technical and business decision-making and team performance.
- Moderate critical technical discussions and work with global partners to align priorities and build API integrations.
- Mentor senior engineers, handle conflict effectively, and foster a blameless culture focused on continuous improvement.
- Participate in leadership recruiting for senior engineers and engineering managers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience with exceptionally strong computer science fundamentals.
- Typically 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Expert knowledge of Scala, Java, or related backend languages.
- Experience designing, building, and delivering large-scale distributed systems and microservices in high-volume, consumer-facing environments.
- Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures, modern software design patterns, and highly available global systems.
- Understanding of Agile engineering processes, including CI/CD pipelines, TDD/BDD, automated workflows, and rapid deployment cycles.
- Hands-on experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical architecture and influence technical strategy.
- Familiarity with TypeScript, React, Snowflake, AWS, Git, GitHub, GitHub Copilot, and Datadog.
Nice to Have
- Experience with container technologies and infrastructure as code (IaC).
- Experience with complex third-party API integrations or e-commerce platforms.
- Interest in using emerging AI technologies to improve developer productivity or consumer experiences.
- Experience in innovative, fast-paced, high-growth SaaS environments.
