Design Engineer
Design and build polished product experiences while improving Ashby’s design system and helping engineers solve complex UX problems. The role requires at least two years of continuous design or engineering experience, strong proficiency in both disciplines, and experience shipping products to users.

Responsibilities
- Design and code product features, combining strong visual design and technical implementation.
- Work on challenging product design problems and improve the in-house design system.
- Consult with Product Engineers on bespoke design work, information hierarchy, scannability, and user experience.
- Redesign workflows by speaking with customers, wireframing flows, implementing design systems, and shipping polished interfaces.
- Build flexible, composable design-system components for consistent product experiences.
- Ship iteratively, gather feedback from users and internal teams, and prioritize improvements based on user needs and business requirements.
- Contribute to customer issues and investigations as part of the engineering team.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of continuous industry experience as an engineer or designer; internships do not count.
- Proficiency in both design and engineering, with exceptional proficiency in the discipline practiced full-time.
- Experience designing products and shipping code to hundreds of users, including through side projects.
- Excellent visual design taste and execution.
- Ability to work independently with minimal process and take ownership of product and design decisions.
- Ability to collaborate naturally and communicate deliberately.
- Comfort shipping quickly and iterating based on user feedback.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience contributing significantly to a design system.
- Professional experience designing and implementing features for hundreds of users and iterating on them through feedback.
- Experience with product design, UI/UX, frontend implementation, and component systems.
Compensation and benefits
- Remote role in the United Kingdom.
- Salary range: £56,000–£149,000 annually.
