Software Engineering Intern

Software engineering interns build and scale production systems for observability and security, contributing across backend, infrastructure, data, frontend, and developer tooling. Candidates should have strong computer science fundamentals, programming experience, and interest in AI-assisted development.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to production systems that process and analyze large-scale observability and application data in real time.
  • Build and improve distributed systems across backend infrastructure, developer platforms, and cloud-native services.
  • Identify and solve performance, reliability, and scalability challenges in critical services.
  • Own and deliver technical projects from design through deployment with support from experienced engineers and mentors.
  • Develop technical expertise through hands-on experience with Kubernetes, distributed systems, and cloud-native infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with interns, mentors, and engineers to build software with global-scale customer impact.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Targeting a 2028 full-time start date.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software design.
  • Comfortable coding in one or more programming languages.
  • Experience using AI coding tools or strong interest in learning to use them effectively.
  • Available to work full-time from the Datadog New York or Boston office during the internship program: January 4–April 23, 2027.

Compensation

  • Estimated yearly salary: $100,000–$110,000 USD.
