Senior Software Engineer II, Platform/API
Owns the backend service layer for account activation and onboarding, building resilient Node.js and TypeScript workflows for identity verification, funding, and third-party integrations. Requires 6+ years of backend experience, event-driven architecture expertise, and production skills with cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Node.js and TypeScript services for account creation, identity verification, agreements, and funding hand-offs.
- Build event-driven and asynchronous processing with message queues, pub/sub, and streaming pipelines.
- Ensure correctness of long-running workflows through idempotency, retries, resumability, deduplication, and reconciliation.
- Design background task runners and job orchestration for downstream account creation and decisioning.
- Build operational tooling for inspecting in-flight state, targeted replay, and safe requeueing.
- Define service-level expectations, monitoring, and alerting for provider failures and applicant drop-off.
- Design scalable, resilient services using Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes.
- Extend onboarding to new markets, brands, and account types through configurable jurisdiction-specific behavior.
- Coordinate technical direction with adjacent engineering squads and coach engineers through design reviews and pairing.
- Own workstreams end to end, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, operations, on-call support, and iteration.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional software development experience building and operating backend services in production.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Deep Node.js and TypeScript expertise, including asynchronous patterns, concurrency, and backpressure.
- Production experience with event-driven architecture, delivery guarantees, and poison-message handling.
- Experience with message queues, pub/sub, or streaming platforms such as Kafka or Google Cloud Pub/Sub.
- Experience building idempotent, resumable workflows that remain correct under retries, partial failure, and out-of-order delivery.
- Strong SQL and schema design skills.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and a major cloud platform.
- Demonstrated use of AI coding agents such as Codex, Cursor, or Claude Code, with the ability to review and validate AI-assisted code.
- Excellent communication and ownership skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with identity verification, KYC/AML, fraud, or risk decisioning systems.
- Experience in fintech, trading, brokerage, or regulated financial services.
- Experience integrating third-party providers with externally controlled contracts and failure modes.
- Familiarity with workflow or saga orchestration frameworks.
- Familiarity with feature flagging platforms such as Statsig.
- Interest in futures, derivatives, and trading technologies.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $140,000.00–$190,000.00 USD.
- Annual target bonus of 12%, based on individual and company/team performance.
- 401(k) plan with up to 3.5% company match.
- 18 days of annual paid time off, plus seven paid holidays.
- Generous PTO, conditional holidays, one annual service day, paid parental bonding leave, health, vision, and dental coverage, and life and disability insurance fully covered by the company.
