Senior Software Engineer II, Backend
Leads development and operation of production Rust backend services for account creation, identity verification, and KYC/CIP decisioning. The role requires 6+ years of software development experience, strong async Rust expertise, secure data-handling experience, and the ability to drive cross-team technical design.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Rust services and crates for account creation, identity verification, and KYC/CIP decisioning.
- Build integrations with identity, fraud, and screening providers, including response modeling, deserialization, and fixture-based testing.
- Implement determination logic as pure, table-tested functions with authoritative rule definitions.
- Design asynchronous, task-based delivery of outcomes to downstream systems, including idempotency keys, retry and resumption semantics, and completion gates.
- Ensure correct handling of personally identifiable information and identity documents through redaction, minimal projections, encryption, secret management, and audit logging.
- Express market and product differences through policy and configuration.
- Operate services through instrumentation, structured logging, alerting, and incident response.
- Design and implement scalable, reliable service architecture using cloud infrastructure such as Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes.
- Lead cross-functional Rust design reviews, establish technical contracts, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional software development experience, including substantial production Rust experience.
- Strong command of Rust in production, including ownership and lifetimes, error modeling, trait design, the Tokio async ecosystem, Serde, and a SQL layer such as SQLx or Diesel.
- Experience writing highly testable Rust with pure functions, table-driven tests, fixture-based integration tests, and strict contract tests.
- Experience designing HTTP and event-driven service integrations, including versioning and backward compatibility.
- Experience handling sensitive data through encryption, secret management, least-privilege access, and audit requirements in containerized cloud environments such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Demonstrated use of AI coding agents such as Codex, Cursor, or Claude Code, with the ability to review and validate AI-assisted code.
- Excellent communication skills and ownership of delivered systems.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with identity verification, KYC/AML, CIP, or fraud and risk decisioning systems.
- Experience in fintech, trading, brokerage, or crypto, particularly in regulated financial services.
- Experience with a large Rust monorepo, shared crates, workspace tooling, and multi-team code ownership.
- Familiarity with policy-driven flow engines, YAML- or JSON-defined workflows, gRPC or protobuf contracts, and feature flagging platforms such as Statsig.
- Interest in futures, crypto, derivatives, and trading technologies.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $140,000.00–$190,000.00 USD.
- Annual target bonus of 12%, based equally on individual and company/team performance.
- 401(k) plan with company matching up to 3.5% of employee contributions.
- 18 days of annual paid time off, plus seven paid holidays.
- Generous PTO, additional conditional holidays, one service day annually, paid parental bonding leave, health, vision, and dental coverage, and life and disability insurance covered 100% by NinjaTrader.
