Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and improve built-in sustainability methodologies by translating sustainability science, GHG accounting standards, and regulatory requirements into robust product logic.
- Partner with software engineers, data scientists, and product managers to design scientifically rigorous, auditable, scalable, and intuitive methodology features.
- Review methodology implementations, write technical specifications, contribute configuration or logic, and help build tests for scientific correctness.
- Interpret evolving standards and guidance, including the GHG Protocol, sustainability reporting frameworks, and sector-specific methodologies.
- Investigate complex questions involving sustainability science, data quality, accounting rules, and business context.
- Build pragmatic approaches for messy business data while balancing rigor, usability, auditability, and customer impact.
- Explain methodology choices to customers, auditors, and other stakeholders.
- Document decisions, review methodology changes, and contribute to internal methodology standards.
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in climate science, environmental science, sustainability, industrial ecology, or another relevant quantitative field.
- 5+ years of experience in corporate sustainability, sustainability consulting, carbon accounting, climate strategy, or a related field.
- Deep knowledge of GHG accounting standards and sustainability reporting frameworks, including the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and Scope 3 Standard.
- Ability to work in a Python codebase, read code, reason about implementation details, and contribute to software.
- Strong systems-thinking and communication skills across scientific, technical, business, customer, and audit audiences.
- Willingness to work from an office 4 days per week, except for roles specifically designated as remote.
Nice-to-haves
- Familiarity with the GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Guidance and updated ESRS.
- Experience building or maintaining carbon accounting methodologies, emissions factor datasets, LCA models, or sustainability software.
- Familiarity with assurance or audit processes for GHG inventories or sustainability disclosures.
- Experience working with Python, SQL, or TypeScript.
- Experience translating standards or scientific methods into operational guidance, technical specifications, or product requirements.
- Experience translating scientific methods into tested, production-grade software with engineers.
Compensation
- Annual salary: $193,500–$202,100.
