About the role

Responsibilities

  • Own complex product areas end-to-end, from discovery and design through implementation, rollout, and iteration.
  • Architect, build, and evolve backend services, APIs, and authentication systems supporting real-time, high-volume workflows.
  • Establish data contracts and authentication and authorization models.
  • Author technical design documents and set standards for code quality, testing, performance, and observability.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineering teams to translate ambiguous requirements into intuitive, performant experiences.
  • Mentor and support engineers through design reviews, pairing, and feedback.
  • Improve developer experience and reliability through better APIs, data contracts, testing strategies, and progressive delivery practices.
  • Participate in on-call and uphold operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including demonstrated Staff-level scope involving cross-team technical leadership, strategy, and delivery.
  • Experience owning products or features through the full lifecycle, from discovery to deployment and iteration.
  • Expertise with TypeScript, Node.js, and API development using REST, WebSocket, and gRPC.
  • Strong SQL fundamentals and experience with an RDBMS such as PostgreSQL.
  • Hands-on experience implementing authentication and authorization in production distributed systems, including OAuth2, JWT, RBAC, login and session flows, and token storage and refresh.
  • Strong product mindset, communication, and ability to connect technical decisions to user and business impact.

Nice to Have

  • Cloud infrastructure experience with Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and progressive delivery practices.
  • Experience in telephony, SIP softswitches such as FreeSWITCH, or adjacent real-time and event-driven domains.
  • Familiarity with React, PostgreSQL, Google Cloud Platform, and FreeSWITCH.
