Staff Software Engineer, Education

Responsibilities

• Architect and own Anthropic’s enterprise-ready education platform and infrastructure, including authentication/SSO, learner data models, content delivery, credentialing, and progress tracking.
• Own the technical vision for AI-driven educational experiences, determining what to build, extend, or replace as needs evolve.
• Build AI-augmented pipelines for content generation, real-time adaptation, assessment delivery, and quality assurance.
• Design adaptive learning paths, competency-based progression, and AI-evaluated demonstrations of skill.
• Interface with security, infrastructure, and data teams to meet organizational standards and integrate with existing architecture.
• Build platform abstractions that let non-engineers configure, extend, and experiment with educational experiences.
• Make product-level decisions that shape the learning experience.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated ability to take a platform from zero to production at scale.
• Genuine passion for education and strong opinions about AI-native educational technology.
• Strong understanding of educational content and the systems that produce it.
• Full-stack engineering skills, particularly backend systems, databases, APIs, authentication, reliability, and infrastructure.
• Experience building and operating platforms that reliably serve many concurrent users.
• Comfort translating pedagogical intent into technical architecture amid ambiguity.
• Experience working with security and infrastructure teams while maintaining development velocity.
• Experience using AI tools in engineering workflows and curiosity about AI-native education platforms.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience building learning platforms, credentialing systems, or educational technology products.
• Background in or exposure to learning science, instructional design, or educational research.
• Experience with SSO and identity systems, including SAML and OAuth.
• Familiarity with Open Badges or LTI integrations.
• Experience building systems that incorporate LLM capabilities as core infrastructure.
• Experience at a high-growth company building platform infrastructure used by other teams.
• Experience designing systems configured and operated by non-technical users.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual salary range: $320,000–$405,000 USD.
• Minimum education: bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
• Anthropic sponsors visas for eligible roles and candidates.
• Hybrid policy: staff are expected to work from an office at least 25% of the time, with some roles requiring more.
