Software Engineer: Test
Build and scale AI-augmented automated testing frameworks, API and end-to-end suites, and test data infrastructure for a SaaS platform. The role requires 3+ years of automation or backend experience, strong TypeScript skills, distributed-system debugging, and the ability to mentor QA engineers.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable automated testing frameworks and end-to-end regression suites using TypeScript and Playwright.
- Validate backend APIs and integration layers according to the testing pyramid.
- Test edge cases, error conditions, and expected user flows while promoting automated testability practices.
- Diagnose test automation failures and platform defects using distributed-system logs, API console data, and Datadog monitoring.
- Document test strategies, automation runbooks, and defect reports in the codebase and Confluence.
- Manage automated test data using PostgreSQL and other platform data stores.
- Collaborate with product managers, developers, QA analysts, and DevOps in Agile sprints.
- Participate in code reviews for application features and test suites.
- Help define QA standards covering AI governance, test coverage ownership, automation versus manual testing, and documentation.
- Coach QA analysts and engineers on test automation and review their automation code.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of professional experience in software test automation, systems validation, or backend engineering in a high-growth SaaS environment.
- Strong TypeScript or comparable scripting-language experience with automated testing frameworks.
- Experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or Claude Code, including prompting, custom instructions, and verification of generated output.
- Strong understanding of Fowler’s Testing Pyramid.
- Hands-on experience with API, functional end-to-end, and performance testing.
- Experience coaching or upskilling testers or engineers in automation.
- Ability to debug distributed backend microservices using logs and monitoring platforms such as Datadog.
Nice to Have
- Experience validating RabbitMQ message queues, Neo4j graph databases, or Redis distributed caches at scale.
- Experience testing multi-tenant B2B SaaS applications, data isolation, high availability, and security compliance tools such as GitLab Ultimate, SonarQube, and Wiz.
- Experience building or maintaining dashboards that report automated and manual test coverage across teams.
Compensation
- $90,000–$118,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.
- Benefits include flexible health and wellness benefits, PTO, company holidays, health days, summer Fridays, learning and development programs, and mentorship opportunities.
