Manufacturing Test Engineer
Owns manufacturing test strategy and execution for complex AI hardware systems, spanning board, tray, and system-level testing from development through production ramp. Requires 5+ years of hardware test experience, strong debugging and data-analysis skills, and collaboration with manufacturers and suppliers.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Define and drive manufacturing test strategy for boards, trays, and system-level hardware assemblies across EVT, DVT, PVT, and production ramp.
- Develop and manage coverage for ICT/structural tests, board-level functional tests, tray-level functional and integration tests, and system-level manufacturing and bring-up tests.
- Partner with electrical, system, and diagnostics/software engineering teams to define test requirements, failure isolation, debug hooks, logging, and production screening strategies.
- Translate engineering requirements into scalable manufacturing test plans; review and approve test plans, pass/fail criteria, and release gates while balancing coverage, test time, debug efficiency, cost, and throughput.
- Collaborate with system integrators, JDMs, contract manufacturers, and equipment vendors to implement and qualify test stations, fixtures, automation, software, equipment configurations, calibration plans, operator procedures, golden-unit correlation, and production workflows.
- Analyze manufacturing test results, logs, diagnostic outputs, yield trends, failure paretos, false-failure rates, and station correlation data to identify gaps and drive corrective actions.
- Debug manufacturing test failures and determine whether root causes involve design, process, fixture, software, components, or operator variation.
- Improve test coverage, cycle time, parallelization, power and cooling efficiency, station reliability, data quality, and test escape prevention.
- Ensure manufacturing test readiness for new product introduction, including specifications, validation plans, GR&R/correlation studies, station acceptance, and production release criteria.
- Establish scalable manufacturing test standards and best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing test engineering, product test, NPI test development, or related hardware test roles.
- Experience developing manufacturing test solutions for complex electronics, servers, networking systems, or high-performance computing hardware.
- Understanding of board-level and system-level test methodologies, including ICT, boundary scan, functional test, burn-in, stress test, and production diagnostics.
- Experience with one or more of the following for servers or AI accelerators: ICT or structural board test, board-level functional test development, tray/chassis/system-level manufacturing test, production diagnostics and debug workflows, or test fixture/rack/station development.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers, JDMs, system integrators, or test equipment vendors to deploy and sustain production test solutions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, hands-on debugging, and cross-functional communication skills.
- Ability to use test data, BMC/host logs, diagnostic logs, power and thermal telemetry, schematics, and lab measurements to identify root causes.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with servers, AI accelerators, networking, power, or data center hardware systems.
- Experience with manufacturing test automation, Python, Bash, Linux-based diagnostics, data pipelines, CI/release controls, or factory test software frameworks.
- Experience supporting high-volume production ramps and factory bring-up in Asia or other global manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of design-for-test principles and their effects on testability, debug, and production yield.
- Experience with failure analysis, root-cause investigations, and corrective action processes in manufacturing environments.
