Assistant General Counsel, Product

Provides legal counsel to teams developing AI and machine-learning products for healthcare, addressing model risk, IP, data rights, liability, privacy, and emerging regulation. Requires 12+ years of legal experience, including substantial AI or emerging-technology counseling and prior in-house experience.

Responsibilities

  • Advise teams building AI and machine-learning models and products on model development, agentic workflows, multimodal outputs, and downstream clinical use.
  • Identify and mitigate AI-specific legal risks involving model behavior, output accuracy, intellectual property, data provenance, training rights, and liability for AI-generated content.
  • Develop scalable legal processes, frameworks, and contract language for frontier AI development.
  • Advise on emerging AI regulation and represent the company with external counsel, regulators, and industry groups as needed.
  • Support privacy impact assessments, model risk assessments, and AI data-governance frameworks.
  • Partner with legal, product, and compliance stakeholders on transparency, accountability, and human oversight.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of legal experience, including 6+ years counseling on AI, machine learning, or emerging-technology products.
  • Prior in-house experience.
  • Knowledge of AI legal issues, including IP and copyright in AI-generated content, training-data rights, model liability, and responsible-AI principles.
  • Ability to translate complex regulatory and technical concepts into practical guidance for technical and non-legal audiences.
  • Ability to operate with ambiguity, tight timelines, and high volumes of novel legal questions.
  • Strong ownership, intellectual curiosity, judgment, and creativity.

Nice-to-haves

  • In-house experience at a growth-stage AI or healthcare-technology company.
  • Understanding of federal and state healthcare laws, including HIPAA and data-privacy regulations, as applied to AI systems.

  • Salary range of $210,000–$315,000, plus equity grants for full-time employees.
