Assistant General Counsel - Privacy

Privacy counsel will build and scale a global privacy program, advise Product, Engineering, Security, and go-to-market teams, and address healthcare, AI, clinical-data, and U.S. privacy requirements. The role requires 10+ years of experience, a JD, and active U.S. state bar membership.

Responsibilities

  • Build Abridge’s privacy program and provide practical, product-focused counseling to Security, Product, and Engineering teams.
  • Advise on privacy laws related to artificial intelligence, machine learning, clinical data, product development, secondary data use, and sensitive information.
  • Develop, maintain, and scale global privacy programs.
  • Support data-sharing and ecosystem matters involving first- and third-party data, vendors, partners, and internal platform services, including governance and contractual expectations.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in privacy laws, regulations, and AI regulatory requirements.
  • Draft, maintain, and operationalize privacy policies, playbooks, templates, governance standards, and training materials.
  • Work cross-functionally with Product and Engineering to evaluate the impact of privacy and data-protection laws and regulatory guidance on product developments.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience across in-house, health-tech, or technology-focused law-firm roles.
  • Experience building, developing, advising on, and evaluating compliance programs.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, biometric privacy laws, and applicable U.S. state privacy and data-security frameworks.
  • Practical, risk-based approach with the ability to balance legal, regulatory, business, and customer considerations.
  • Strong business judgment and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, including translating complex legal requirements into actionable guidance for technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple high-priority matters in a fast-moving environment.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior healthcare or health-tech experience.
  • Familiarity with privacy regulations and artificial intelligence.
  • IAPP CIPP certification.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range of $220,000–$300,000.
