Senior Software Engineer on Pilot’s Takeoff team, building and operating accounting systems that support transaction categorization, revenue recognition, and accurate financials. The role requires 5+ years of software engineering experience, production experience with Python or Vue/JavaScript frameworks, strong systems judgment, and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities
- Build, test, and continuously deploy software.
- Collaborate with product managers, product designers, engineers, accounting experts, internal customers, and stakeholders.
- Create technical specifications and testing and rollout plans.
- Write technical designs, conduct code reviews, and maintain high engineering standards.
- Mentor and sponsor teammates.
- Investigate production issues, improve system reliability, and support services.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- Production experience with Python, Vue, or other JavaScript frameworks.
- Strong coding fundamentals and ability to write clean, maintainable, well-tested code.
- Strong product and systems judgment in ambiguous or evolving problem spaces.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience working effectively on a remote team, including async and written communication.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and teach others.
- Remote employment eligibility in the United States in CA, GA, NY, NC, TN, TX, or WA.
Nice to Have
- Production experience with Vue.
- Experience with accounting systems, double-entry bookkeeping, or revenue recognition.
- Familiarity with agentic or AI-assisted systems in production.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs and external systems, such as payment processors.
- Background in accounting, fintech, or related fields.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base pay range of $133,000–$192,000 in most remote locations.
- Base pay range of $166,000–$240,000 in San Francisco, CA and New York City, NY.
- Equity, 401(k), health benefits, wellness benefits, flexible vacation/time off, federal holidays, and parental leave with 100% pay for 12 weeks.
