The Senior Software Engineer will architect, build, test, and maintain scalable distributed systems for global logistics, while leading major projects and mentoring engineers. Responsibilities
- Build highly available, secure, distributed systems using a microservice architecture.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain systems representing logistics entities such as shippers, clients, cargo, documents, carriers, containers, and email.
- Architect and drive major projects involving phased rollouts and multiple stakeholders.
- Collaborate with business partners and product managers to turn complex business problems into technical solutions.
- Build and launch products rapidly through incremental production releases.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to the broader software engineering community.
- Maintain a high quality bar through metrics, testing, postmortems, and operational improvements.
- Resolve system-level issues, simplify legacy code, and design composable services.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- 3+ years of software design and architecture experience, including object-oriented analysis and design patterns.
- Experience building large-scale, high-performance systems in complex, multi-tiered, distributed environments.
- Proficiency in at least one of Java, Kotlin, Ruby, Python, or C++.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience delivering large projects across multiple teams or organizations.
- Understanding of performance tradeoffs, load balancing, and operational issues.
- Experience mentoring junior software engineers.
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, continuous deployment, testing, and operations.
- Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to business partners, product managers, and engineers.
