About the role

What you’ll do

  • Build and extend systems that carry traffic end-to-end on the egress path of Cloudflare's network, starting from the host server Linux kernel, integrating with the network hardware dataplane to the physical interconnect.
  • Work on the latest Linux network technologies and low-level details of network protocols.
  • Solve problems of massive scale that impact millions of customers and shape the future of internet reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate with engineers across the company, from operations teams to teams building customer-facing products.
  • Participate in on-call rotation under the "Run What You Build" model, taking responsibility for the health of the systems.

Role requirements

  • Systems-level programming experience in Go, Python, Rust, C, or C++.
  • Solid grasp of BGP and internet routing.
  • Demonstrated ability to dive into and learn new technologies quickly.
  • Experience implementing, deploying, and debugging mission-critical distributed systems.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Bonus points

  • Familiarity with vendor switching SDKs.
  • Familiarity with SR-MPLS, sFlow, BGP-LS, and PCE protocols.
  • Experience writing packet-processing software (e.g., eBPF at TC or XDP, DPDK).
  • Experience participating in an on-call rotation.
