Software Engineer: Backend
Build and operate backend services, APIs, and data layers for an enterprise GRC SaaS platform. The role requires 3+ years of backend or platform engineering experience with Java or Kotlin, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and relational databases.

Responsibilities
- Design and build backend features and production-grade REST APIs for the Risk Cloud platform using Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot.
- Take engineering work from requirements through implementation, testing, and production release.
- Write clean code and comprehensive unit and integration tests with JUnit.
- Diagnose and resolve distributed backend service issues using logs, console data, request tracing, and customer session analytics.
- Own a defined platform domain, such as workflow or reporting services, and design maintainable, scalable functionality.
- Participate in technical specification reviews and estimate effort.
- Write technical documentation, including API contracts, data models, and Confluence runbooks.
- Query and optimize PostgreSQL, Neo4j, and Redis data flows across microservices.
- Work with RabbitMQ and other messaging infrastructure.
- Collaborate with product managers, QA engineers, and frontend developers in Agile sprints.
- Participate in peer code reviews and uphold engineering conventions.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of professional backend, platform, or systems engineering experience.
- Strong experience with Java, Kotlin, or a comparable enterprise JVM language.
- Practical experience with Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
- Experience building, owning, and maintaining production REST APIs, including API versioning and contract stability.
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including complex queries, schema migrations, and query-performance analysis.
- Ability to independently debug distributed backend services using logs and monitoring systems such as Datadog.
- Experience using security and code-quality tools such as GitLab Ultimate, SonarQube, and Wiz.
- Experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or Claude Code, with the ability to verify or reject generated output.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Go.
- Familiarity with Neo4j, RabbitMQ, or Redis.
- Experience building multi-tenant B2B SaaS applications with strong data isolation, availability, and scalability requirements.
- Understanding of event-driven architecture, microservices, and containerized applications.
Compensation and Benefits
- On-target earnings: $105,000–$130,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.
