Associate General Counsel

Associate General Counsel will partner with the General Counsel to build Agora’s legal function, lead commercial contracting, advise on digital-asset regulation, and support corporate, compliance, financing, and dispute matters. Requires a J.D., U.S. bar admission, and approximately 8–12 years of broad legal experience.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the General Counsel and executive leadership on diverse legal matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial and technology agreements, including vendor and technology agreements, partnerships, customer and platform terms, NDAs, and services arrangements.
  • Advise the business on the digital-asset regulatory landscape, partnering with compliance and outside counsel.
  • Support entity management, board materials, corporate housekeeping, financing, and equity matters.
  • Partner with compliance on policies and controls; help manage inquiries, disputes, and litigation; and direct outside counsel.
  • Build legal templates, playbooks, intake processes, and scalable workflows.
  • Handle a broad range of matters, including employment, privacy, intellectual property, and marketing.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to a U.S. state bar in good standing; New York admission or eligibility to register as in-house counsel in New York preferred.
  • Approximately 8–12 years of legal experience, ideally combining law-firm and in-house experience.
  • Broad experience in commercial contracting, regulatory and product counseling, corporate and governance matters, and compliance.
  • Exposure to digital assets, cryptocurrency, banking, regulated financial services, or fintech.
  • Experience collaborating across functions and building stakeholder trust.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Sound, risk-adjusted judgment, analytical rigor, pragmatism, autonomy, and resourcefulness.

Nice to Have

  • In-house experience at an early-stage or high-growth company.
  • Familiarity with regulations governing digital assets, stablecoins, money movement, banking, or financial services; U.S. bank regulatory experience is a plus.
  • Experience managing outside counsel and legal budgets.
  • Experience selecting or implementing legal technology and self-service processes.

Compensation

  • New York Metro salary range: $250,000–$300,000.
  • Eligible for annual bonus opportunities and an option grant.
