Design Engineer

Designs and supports high-capacity medium- and low-voltage electrical infrastructure for AI data centers, including drawings, equipment sizing, power studies, specifications, and construction support. Requires a bachelor's degree and at least three years of relevant electrical design experience.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Produce and maintain single-line diagrams, three-lines, panel schedules, cable schedules, conduit and raceway layouts, grounding plans, and equipment elevations.
  • Perform load calculations, voltage drop, cable ampacity and derating, conduit fill, and pull-tension analysis, including long underground runs.
  • Size medium- and low-voltage transformers, switchgear, busway, and feeders; specify impedance, BIL, temperature rise, and short-time ratings.
  • Write equipment specifications and technical bid evaluations for ring-main units, transformers, switchgear, busway, and PDUs.
  • Supply model inputs to protection and power-system studies, including nameplate data, impedances, cable constants, and as-designed configurations.
  • Resolve field RFIs and issue design changes during construction.
  • Maintain organized design and asset documentation for data center electrical packages.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70, NFPA 70B, NFPA 70E, NESC, and IEEE standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or another engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of electrical design experience in data center, industrial, or utility facilities.
  • Experience producing issued-for-construction drawing sets using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or Revit.
  • Working knowledge of NEC Articles 110, 215, 240, 250, 310, and 450.
  • Medium-voltage cable system design experience.
  • Experience with power systems analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, MATLAB, or PSCAD.
  • Revit or BIM coordination experience.
  • Engineer in Training certification or progress toward a Professional Engineer license.
  • Experience on repeated, multi-phase builds rather than one-off projects.
  • Strong initiative, creative problem-solving, analytical ability, and engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to perform hands-on work in heat, cold, rain, tight quarters, and at heights.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed for construction, energization, and operations.
  • Ability to remain focused in hazardous environments while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
  • Availability for 24/7 on-call emergency support.
  • Willingness to work onsite in Memphis, TN and travel up to 25% for factory witness testing, vendor and OEM engagement, and support of other sites.
  • Valid driver's license.
