Lead Performance Web Engineer
Leads web platform performance, observability, release verification, and AI-driven developer tooling for a high-traffic Next.js product. The role combines hands-on architecture with leadership of a small team and requires deep production web performance and systems experience.

Responsibilities
- Build and maintain agentic workflows for PR review, automated production verification, performance-regression detection and bisection, and release gates.
- Define and automatically enforce web performance budgets in CI, at the edge, and through real-user monitoring.
- Instrument real-user metrics for trading surfaces and own Core Web Vitals, bundle and rendering budgets, caching, and streaming strategy.
- Own the alert lifecycle from detection through dashboards and actionable engineering response; improve signal quality and eliminate flaky alerts.
- Set and automate architecture standards for measuring, shipping, and verifying web changes.
- Maintain a unified view of production web health across errors, traces, and real-user monitoring.
- Build dashboards for release health, vitals, error budgets, and funnel-critical surfaces.
- Lead a small team while remaining hands-on.
Requirements
- Expert-level web performance experience, including improving slow pages and proving results with real-user data.
- Experience operating production web applications at scale with large, active user bases.
- Deep Next.js experience, including App Router, React Server Components, streaming/PPR, caching layers, and hydration cost.
- Experience building AI/agentic developer tooling or automation used daily by an engineering team.
- Experience owning observability and alerting for a high-traffic production product.
- Strong systems thinking across CDN and edge caching, browser internals, measurement bias, and backend latency effects on frontend performance.
- Strong ownership and ability to lead a small team while staying hands-on.
Nice to Have
- Real-money or trading product experience.
- Deep Cloudflare experience, including Workers, cache rules, and edge telemetry.
- Experience operating LLM-based code review or test generation at scale.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary: $250,000–$500,000 annually, plus equity and benefits.
