Own and advance deck.gl-based geospatial visualization libraries, delivering scalable 2D and 3D rendering for mapping data while improving performance and mentoring engineers. Responsibilities
- Own and extend the deck.gl-based map visualization library.
- Design and deliver 2D and 3D rendering capabilities for geospatial data, road networks, lane geometry, and proprietary road network structures.
- Partner with Cartography and Simulation teams to translate visualization needs into scalable features.
- Improve rendering performance for large and complex map datasets.
- Improve code quality, documentation, and test coverage.
- Mentor engineers on geospatial rendering and React/deck.gl patterns.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong expertise in React and modern TypeScript.
- Hands-on experience with deck.gl, Mapbox GL, MapLibre, or a comparable WebGL-based mapping or 3D visualization library.
- Strong knowledge of geospatial data concepts, including coordinate systems, tiling, and vector and raster rendering.
- Experience designing and maintaining libraries or platforms used by other engineering teams.
- Strong focus on correctness, modularity, testability, and code quality.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with large-scale geospatial datasets in autonomous vehicle, mapping, or GIS environments.
- Familiarity with WebGL and GPU rendering performance optimization.
- Technical mentorship experience and cross-team collaboration on shared infrastructure.
Compensation
- Annual salary range: $201,000–$275,000.
