The Community You Will Join
The Networking team within Airbnb's Cloud Infrastructure org owns the entire Airbnb production network infrastructure. They design, build, and operate software and solutions that connect all Airbnb users and services, including traffic proxy and load balancer, service mesh, VPC/backbone, cross-region connectivity, network monitoring, and security systems.
The Difference You Will Make
Work with talented engineers on cutting-edge cloud native network stack from Layer3 - Layer7. Contribute to key infrastructure components connecting all Airbnb users and services globally. Influence large initiatives like global traffic load balancing, disaster recovery, next-gen service mesh, cross-region gateways, and edge security. Engage with open source communities (e.g., Kubernetes, Istio).
A Typical Day
- Work with open source communities (e.g., Istio) to build next-generation service mesh for all Airbnb back-end services.
- Build cross-region gateways and load balancers for global Airbnb services.
- Work with external partners and internal teams to deliver edge security systems.
- Design multi-region network architecture on public clouds and build software/operation tools.
- Optimize network performance with product and engineering teams.
Your Expertise
- 9+ years of relevant software development experience in fast-paced, high-growth tech environment.
- Deep understanding of cloud native networking and distributed systems.
- Expertise with virtual network architecture on public clouds (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and services (e.g., VPC, Security Group, TGW).
- Experience running large-scale networking systems (e.g., edge proxies, DNS, CDN, gateways); Istio/Envoy a plus.
- Full-cycle developer with strong ownership of high-scale distributed systems.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and on-call leadership.
- Passion for efficiency, availability, and system quality.
