Staff Software Engineer, Leverage

Responsibilities

• Design and build the knowledge infrastructure that gives AI tools at Fleetio structured access to company context (API layer, CLI, SDK, agent configuration, protocol servers, etc.).
• Build integrations connecting internal knowledge sources (project management, documentation, code, data warehouses, communication tools) into a consistent, secure context layer with identity passthrough.
• Design the system for extensibility (spoke templates, plugin architectures, shared configuration patterns).
• Partner with teams across Fleetio to identify friction points and build integrations for Product Managers, Designers, Customer Success, etc.
• Own CI/CD intelligence for fast, reliable pipelines in AI-accelerated development.
• Define and own measurement framework for AI adoption and internal tool impact.
• Champion AI-first documentation practices (machine-parseable formats, clear interfaces).
• Collaborate with Platform/SRE, Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers.
• Produce well-tested, maintainable, performant code; conduct thorough code reviews.
• Add enterprise-grade capabilities to internal AI tooling (identity/auth, governed data access, cross-system queries).
• Establish technical standards for the Leverage team.

Requirements

• 5+ years professional experience building production software.
• Strong integration engineering: APIs, auth schemes (OAuth, API keys, SAML, service accounts), data formats, rate limits.
• Experience with protocol-based architectures (MCP, LSP), SDKs, CLI tooling, developer platform design.
• Full-stack capabilities: backend services, CLI tools, internal UIs.
• Identity and access management (Okta, SSO) with identity passthrough.
• Building/consuming APIs and external integrations.
• Solving architecture problems with good design.
• Unit testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Rails experience.
• Building internal tools, developer platforms, or DevEx tooling.
• Integrating multiple SaaS APIs (auth, pagination, rate limits).
• Small team experience owning product portions.
• Hands-on with AI coding tools (Copilot, Codex).
• Experience at companies investing in internal tooling (Stripe, Shopify, etc.).
• Workflow automation (n8n, Zapier, Workato).
• Shared developer tooling ecosystems.
• AI agent architectures (Codex skills, MCP tools, function calling).
• Snowflake, PostgreSQL.
• Fleet management industry knowledge.
