Staff Database Engineer
Staff Database Engineer builds and operates Lakebase (managed Postgres for lakehouse), advises on feature designs, develops operational tools for troubleshooting/security/observability, and optimizes application/database performance. Requires 5+ years Postgres experience with OLTP systems.
Responsibilities
- Advise software engineering teams on functional and non-functional feature designs
- Work with product teams to validate designs satisfy customer requirements
- Design operational tools to simplify troubleshooting
- Build enterprise extensions for Lakebase to meet customer security and observability requirements
- Assist field engineers with complex POCs
- Advise customers and field engineers on best practices for application and database design to maximize performance
Requirements
- Passion for database systems and application performance tuning
- Experience building and operating high-volume OLTP systems including root cause analysis for incidents
- Experience building tools to automate database management, monitoring, and operations
- Experience with query tuning in Postgres (schema design, indexes, hints, vacuum, etc)
- Motivated by delivering customer value and impact
- 5+ years of experience working with Postgres and other database systems
