Gamification Senior Software Engineer

Responsibilities
- Design and build performant, scalable, and reliable Ruby on Rails backend services.
- Own complex feature delivery end-to-end, from product requirements through deployment and monitoring.
- Diagnose performance bottlenecks, optimize database queries, and improve backend resilience under load.
- Define architectural direction and communicate technical tradeoffs.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
- Improve practices for code quality, testing, observability, and deployment.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, QA, and engineering teams.
- Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, root-cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
Requirements
- 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience, including significant production Ruby on Rails experience.
- Experience owning and delivering complex, multi-component features.
- Experience designing and operating scalable backend systems.
- Expert Ruby on Rails and idiomatic Ruby proficiency.
- Strong PostgreSQL skills, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Understanding of RESTful API design, serialization, and versioning.
- Experience with background job processing and asynchronous workflows, such as Sidekiq.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Understanding of logging, metrics, and tracing.
- Working knowledge of Go.
- Ability to work autonomously on ambiguous problems and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in a fully remote engineering organization.
- Authorization to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship is unavailable.

- Experience using AI-assisted development tools for coding, planning, scoping, and code review.
