Senior Backend Engineer, Enterprise Billing Platform

Responsibilities

• Rearchitect the billing pipeline into a self-serve platform with reusable primitives and components for launching pricing models.
• Design and implement usage-based and token-based pricing infrastructure in Python and Go.
• Build abstractions and shared components that reduce the complexity of shipping new pricing SKUs.
• Implement audit logging, usage tracking, and metering pipelines focused on billing accuracy.
• Integrate with billing and payment platforms such as Metronome, Orb, and Stripe.
• Own billing reconciliation, deduplication, proration, disputes, credits, and other invoicing edge cases.
• Partner with product managers and engineering teams to define the pricing infrastructure roadmap.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented backend code.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with Python or Go; experience with both is preferred.
• Hands-on experience building or scaling usage-based, subscription, or consumption billing infrastructure.
• Experience with metering, invoicing, or pricing-model logic.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Redis, APIs, and modern distributed backend infrastructure.
• Strong ownership and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, unstructured startup environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience with token-based or usage-based cost tracking, especially at LLM or API-first companies.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual salary range: $175,000-$240,000.
• Base salary, variable compensation for relevant roles, equity, benefits, and perks.
